about:

Lawrence Duncan,  Artist

Inspired by a wonder of nature, Lawrence combines photography, digital imaging, and printmaking into beautiful natural imagery.

"Sometimes people ask the question, is that a 'real' photograph? But the way it seems to me is that the instant I click the shutter, the image is no longer really what was there, the reality I was seeing, the subject I was trying to depict.

You know, maybe you've been somewhere incredible and taken photos, only to look at the photos later and discover that they're not at all what you remember. And so in my artwork of photography, digital imaging, and printmaking, I try to put back a piece of that wonder, that sparkle, that thunder that you can never really capture on film or data to begin with.

It's interesting, I used to shoot a lot of black and white photography. And when I would be shooting, I would almost find myself 'seeing' in black and white, envisioning the scene as it would be rendered in the darkroom. These days with digital imaging, it's a very similar thing: when I'm out with my camera, I'm seeing both what's there, and also the possibilies that the image may have with imaging."
